Recording Studio History

Steve Wetherbee, who has worked with members from groups like Rush, Kansas, and Santana, founded the studio over 30 years ago to provide excellent sound quality at awesome prices. Though we have had many buildings, our current recording facility is one of the best in town because it was built from the ground up to ensure superb acoustic quality. Our commitment to excellent sound quality and our great rates have consistently made us one of the top recording, mixing, and mastering studios in San Diego. Almost 75% of our business comes from returning clients because they know there is no other studio in San Diego that can compare.


Superior Sound Quality

We are the only recording studio in San Diego that was built from the ground up for recording, mixing, and mastering. Why is that important? Well, it means superior sound quality and mixes that sound great anywhere you listen to them.

Proper acoustic treatment can transform a muddy sounding room, one with poor midrange definition, or maybe an erratic bass response, into one that sounds present and clear. Without effective acoustic treatment, it is difficult to hear what you're doing, making it much harder to create a good mix. In a home stereo, poor acoustics can make the sound less clear, harder to place, and have an uneven frequency response. Even if you spend many thousands of dollars on the most accurate loudspeakers and other pieces of gear, the frequency response you actually realize in an untreated room is likely to vary by 30 dB or even more. This hinders your ability to create a mix that translates well in various settings.

We also have the best in vintage analog gear, with 2-inch tape tracking available, as well as vintage tube microphone preamplifiers. Combine this with the best and latest modern gear and you've got everything you need under one roof.


Large Recording Room

Our vast recording space is large enough to accomodate any size band and any project, and contains an isolation booth that is ideal for up close and present vocal tracks, whether it be voice-overs or singing.


Spacious, Versatile Control Room

Our control room is equipped with a rare Trident TSM console with Jensen transformers, that hundreds of gold and platinum records have been recorded and mixed on. Our control room was completely designed with audio in mind, and has been fitted with a $60,000 Boxer Speaker system, which makes it an ideal room for any recording, mixing or mastering needs. We spared no expense on our near-field monitoring either, and after auditioning our Genelects, Tannoys, NS-10's, and Westlake BBSM-6, we currently use our API speakers.
